Sanitel-Med: what changed on 1 January 2026

The four changes

Sanitel-Med is the FAMHP register for antimicrobial use in food-producing animals. It did not move, but what you must put in it did.

Registration is made in the name of the veterinarian who administers, supplies or prescribes — name, first name and registration number. That has not changed, and it is why a shared login is a problem here specifically.

1. More species

The register widened well beyond pigs, veal calves, cattle and chicken and turkey:

• Sheep, goats, camelids and deer species
• Food-producing rabbits
• Ducks, geese, ostriches, pigeons, guinea fowl, pheasants, quail and partridges

3. The cattle age bands moved

This is the quiet one. The same animal can fall in a different band than it did last year, and the band decides how the use is counted.

A nine-month-old animal was young stock and is now a calf. If you carried a mental rule of thumb from last year, it is wrong.

4. The indication is now mandatory

You must state the condition the antibiotic was used for, chosen from a standardised list of eleven — respiratory disease, systemic disease, mastitis and the rest.

This is the change that punishes recording at the deadline instead of at the point of care. Three months later, nobody reliably reconstructs why a specific animal got a specific product, and a guess in a national register is worse than an inconvenience.

The two deadlines, which are not the same deadline

1. Register by the 14th of the month after the quarterThis is the one people miss. Q1 ends 31 March and must be registered by 14 April — not by 14 May.
2. Correct until the 14th of the second monthAfter registering, the modification window stays open one more month. Q1 can be corrected until 14 May.
3. After that, it is a request, not an editPast the modification window, a change needs a motivated request to the Sanitel-Med helpdesk with supporting documentation. That is an afternoon, not a click.
